When I was three years old, I remember watching my dad doodle a picture of Donald Duck for my sister’s birthday party. When I tried to copy him, (and failed) he told me that I did a “pretty good job.” That was the day I caught the art bug, and I’ve had it ever since. That's the thing about how I grew up: art was everywhere. Everyone in my family still has this habit of doodling all over everything. It's how we think. I even have notebooks filled with obscure biology notes that are entirely pictorial.
When I graduated High School in 2010, I frustrated and infuriated the masses (okay, mostly Grandpa) by declaring to the world “I want to be a professional artist... and get paid.“ (I know, no one else thought those things went together either). Regardless, I began looking for art everywhere and trying everything (even scrap-booking). Eventually, that translated into design.
Now, I’ve always loved looking at design work—I even had fun with some magazine projects in high school—but I wasn’t always taken with it as a career. When I first started college, I remember spending hours staring at the rags in my first type project just wanting to scream (because hyphens are the devil). But after I got over the growing pains, the work became really fun and exciting. Now, design is an impulse. And I love every minute of it.
